Spaghetti with homemade meat sauce

My son LOVES my homemade meat sauce! I will admit I do use the jar stuff on a busy weeknight after work but if I'm making spaghetti on the weekend I have to make homemade meat sauce.

You could use this meat sauce recipe for spaghetti, lasagna or any italian dish.

Cook the ground beef:

(I use the leanest ground beef I can find 90/10 is my go to, but sometimes I can only find 80/20)

3 lbs ground beef

1/2 Tbsp garlic powder

2 Tbsp onion powder

1 Tbsp salt

1/2 Tbsp black pepper

4 Tbsp basil

Make the Sauce:

4 29 oz cans tomato sauce

2 6 oz cans tomato paste

2 Tbsp onion powder

1 Tbsp garlic powder

6 Tbsp basil

1/2 Tbsp black pepper

1/2 Tbsp salt

1/2 stick butter

1/2 cup white sugar

When the ground beef is thoroughly cooked but NOT overly browned (you don't want crispy ground beef in your sauce, you want it tender - drain it and then add it to the sauce, stir well.

Turn the heat down on low and let it simmer for about 10 minutes (stir it occasionally).

While your sauce is simmering get your noodles going, we prefer angel hair pasta but you can use the noodles you prefer.

I always make a larger batch of sauce than we'll eat so I can freeze some.

For freezing purposes, I do not mix the noodles into the sauce, we just plate our noodles and sauce together when we're ready to eat. We usually eat 1-2 quarts over the course of 2 days and I'm able to freeze 2-3 quarts of the sauce. Its great to have it stashed in the freezer for a quick after work weekday meal.
